Building a Deck = Cousin Play Time

My parents are adding a deck on the back of their house and this weekend marked the start of the project. My cousin’s husband, John, is doing the build which meant Saturday morning when Avery & I went over to my parents to play, Avery was greeted by his three cousins from up north who had come down to play while their daddy worked. Because they don't get to see each other all that often Avery was a little shy to start with but he quickly warmed up to his playmates. After a little play time and some lunch, it was nap time for all four kids. Avery was the first to wake up from his nap, so while he waited for the others to wake up he watched all the deck building activity going on outside (thru the new patio door that was installed while he slept).

While the deck building continued, we had other plans on how to spend a hot Saturday afternoon. We (all four kids, my mom, my aunt, my cousin Robin and I) all went to the North Mankato Pool (aka Spring Lake). It’s a sand and pea gravel bottom pool. most of the pool isn't very deep making it the perfect place for us to cool off on a hot afternoon. We brought shovels and buckets and had a great time.

The pool was busy but it wasn’t overly crowded and we still had plenty of room to play. The kids had a great time swimming and playing in the sand. I am always glad when Avery gets the chance to play with his cousins. With four little kids running around it can get very busy but it’s always fun.
