Waiting for the Echo |
Yesterday Avery had his Echocardiogram. We had this done because for the past few months we have occasionally seen Avery’s lips turn blue-ish. For awhile we thought he was cold, and dressed him warmer, but this theory became less and less likely. He has had some breathing issues in the past but when we have seen his blue lips, his breathing is steady and he is usually sitting semi still, and calm.

Blue Lip Baby |
To be safe his doctor suggested the non invasive echocardiogram to check a few things out. The whole test went really well, Avery and I checked in at the Heart Center and Jon soon joined us, we only waited for a few minutes before we were lead back to the room where the images would be taken. A TV and DVD/VCR had been rolled into the room for Avery to watch, a distraction. So while Avery laid very still on the bed watching Baby Einstein and holding his daddy’s hand, the tech preformed the Echo, taking “pictures” of his tummy and heart. Avery did so great! I was so impressed with him. We were told the images would be read the same day and we should know the results by the end out the week. It wasn’t even 2 hours later that I received a call from his doctor’s nurse that Avery’s echo was normal, really, really great news. So we may not have an answer to why his lip are turning blue but we know what it is not. As far as next steps go, there are none, when his lips are blue he isn’t pain, or distress so for now knowing what it isn’t, is enough (unless something changes that is).
